One of my favourite things about the weather getting colder is the return of the evergreens! Evergreen foliage is one of those things I wish I could incorporate in my designs all year long & I do when I can. The smell takes me back to my childhood & just leaves me in a happy place. Living in the Northern Canada for most of my life has made me appreciate that I am able to go out into the woods by my house & cut down almost all the supplies to make my ideal arrangement. Texture is also something that is really important to me & nothing shows it off better than all the textures we have outside in the winter.
This design was made for a Christmas dinner party at my sister's house this week. My sister, Amy Marcelli, is an interior designer with a very neural & contemporary condo. I wanted to make something that would suit her home but also stay true to my naturally wild design style. The only supplies that did not come from my woods were the blue thistles, white ranunculus, african cones & cotton branches. It was a fun reminder for me to stay natural & work with what is around me. I can't wait to do more of this style in this upcoming year!
